LINDACREST HILL HOUSE
Hollylwood Hills, California, UNBUILT

A house designed to fit on a difficult upslope hillside lot. The lot is narrow at the base and wide at the top, presenting daylight challenges inherited from restrictive zoning setbacks and height limitations. Given the Los Angeles climate and the desire for indoor-outdoor living, the design focused on creating artificial outdoor spaces on the roof, vertically through the stair shaft, and above the garage behind a hedge wall along the kitchen and living room spaces. These "natural" spaces doubled as opportunities to pull daylight into the depths of the massing and animate even the most embedded spaces with sunlight.
